{"id":66,"date":"2014-03-18T03:40:42","date_gmt":"2014-03-18T03:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bellydancemysteries.com\/?p=66"},"modified":"2014-07-01T23:55:35","modified_gmt":"2014-07-01T23:55:35","slug":"murder-firsts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bellydancemysteries.com\/?p=66","title":{"rendered":"Murder Firsts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>THE FIRST EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD\u2019S BELLY DANCE MURDER MYSTERY<\/b>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Isn\u2019t mine.\u00a0 When I got the idea to write a belly dance mystery, I honestly thought it would be.\u00a0 What a great way to introduce it to publishers, I thought, being the FIRST author to come up with this idea!<\/p>\n<p>As a mystery addict, I know just how full the bookstore shelves are of intrepid female sleuths who knit, cook, quilt, run catering businesses, own antique shops, have cats, make tea, restore houses, do needlepoint, work as pet-sitters, you name it\u2014but not a single belly dancer among them.\u00a0 Or so I thought. \u00a0Turns out, I\u2019m not the first belly dancer to get into the murder game.\u00a0 I\u2019m not even the second!\u00a0 A little research online turned up some interesting names\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The first author I came across was Sandra Catena, author of <i>The African Belly Dance<\/i>.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know the publication date, but there are mentions of this book online as early as 2008!\u00a0 As far as I can discover, this officially makes her the first to actually publish a belly dance murder mystery.\u00a0 Sandra Catena, I take my hat off to you!\u00a0 I can\u2019t give you a review of it yet, because I\u2019ve only just ordered it, but it sounds like a great read.\u00a0 You can find it too, at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bigapplebellydance.com\">www.bigapplebellydance.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second author I found was Safira, of Safira\u2019s Center for World Dance.\u00a0 Her novel, Jezebel Died Dancing, is available for free, chapter-by-chapter, on Safira\u2019s website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dancewichita.com\">www.dancewichita.com<\/a> \u00a0I\u2019ve just started reading this, and it\u2019s a hoot!\u00a0 Since it was published serially as she wrote it, the publication date ranges from 2012 to 2014\u2014still well ahead of me!<\/p>\n<p>And while we\u2019re on the subject of Those Who Beat Me To It, let\u2019s not leave out the fabulous production \u201cDark Side of the Crown,\u201d the bellydance extravaganza featuring\u2014of all things&#8211;a murder mystery!\u00a0 This incredible piece was done by Bellydance Evolution, under the direction of Jillina.\u00a0 While the troupe is now about to open a different show, Alice in Wonderland, you can still get the DVD of Dark Side of the Crown at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jillinashop.com\">www.jillinashop.com<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>The upshot is, we belly dancers seem to be a murderous bunch!\u00a0 I <i>think<\/i> I\u2019m the first one to plan a murder mystery series (I\u2019m already working on the next one) but I could be wrong.\u00a0 There may be even more luscious murder mysteries out there to be discovered!\u00a0 The way I see it, it\u2019s win-win either way\u2014I either get bragging rights, or I get to find a cool new book to read.\u00a0 Yay!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE FIRST EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD\u2019S BELLY DANCE MURDER MYSTERY\u2026 Isn\u2019t mine.\u00a0 When I got the idea to write a belly dance mystery, I honestly thought it would be.\u00a0 What a great way to introduce it to &hellip;
